Just finished up week five of the cross country season. As usual there have been pleasant surprises and a few disappointments.
Just getting kids to the starting line can sometimes be one of the biggest challenges in CC. At the end of the 2011 season, I proudly stated that my top 15 boys would all be back (no seniors) from a team that was our strongest in years. Well, three of those didn’t go out this year, and one transferred. But the boys squad is still strong on numbers (21) and is coming together.
My girls squad, however, is where our numbers are really hurting us. We have just 6 girls out and everyone has had some sort of injury or illness this fall. The Central Plains league is fairly down on the girls side this year (after Douglass) and I feel like we could end up 2nd or not even end up fielding a full five.
But, we focus on the positives and keep our fingers crossed…
