An Odd Fellow

Julius lives at the Odd Fellows Home in Carmen, Oklahoma at the end of the Great Depression. His mom only visits occasionally, but when she does Julius is treated to his favorite thing in the world – going to the movies. The stories he encounters on screen and in the books he reads illuminate the world beyond his dusty town. When he’s not distracted by fiction, he’s prone to mischief, much to the chagrin of the adults in his life. He may be the smartest kid around (in his opinion), but he’s no stranger to finding trouble.

A unique kind of trouble finds him in the form of his new stepfather, a scientist who uses Julius as a test subject and turns him invisible. As Julius grows up with his humble life taken away from him, he toggles between embracing his new situation and viewing it as a curse. No places are off limits to him, but every meal he eats is stolen. Relationships are impossible. He hopes to see his mother one day and, more importantly, he hopes that she (or anyone) will be able to see him again.

This is my second novel, released in 2022. Unlike my young adult novel Magic Carpet Ride, An Odd Fellow is more of an adult, light sci-fi.
